I picked up an Alvey rod and reel combo last summer, 13.5 foot med/hev rod and the 7.5 inch reel. It is very different then anything I ever used so it took some getting used to. I will say that my casting distance with the Avley outfit has surpassed that of the spinning outfits I use of equal size. I just added braided line to the Alvey and hope to see an even greater reach. My advice, buy one but be patient.
