Posted by ChumBucket Someone did give me a new idea though. He suggested threading the 18 LB mono I originally wanted to fish through 60 LB Dacron, thereby creating a sixty pound shock leader while still eliminating the knot of a tied on shock leader. Have you ever tried this, or heard of it before?

I've fished a couple of times with the 50lb PowerPro (spectra) as mainline, eliminating the need for a tied on shock leader, and I'm happy to report that other than the cost, I am fairly happy with this solution.
