Fireline generally breaks at way above the lb. rating provided the knots are properly done. 60lb should be unbreakable during casting and fishing. Fireline comes in 30lb, 50lb or 80lb over here, (as well as lighter) and of these, I think 50lb would be (more than??) enough for anything you, your rod or your reel could handle with a Purglas 400/2 rod. PS. that picture of Chas Riegert casting is with 10lb Fireline (or maybe 8lb, Chas may say which) and he puts a lot of his considerable strength into his casts and he rarely breaks off. TerryF

The "rule of thumb" might have been for mono leaders. Fireline is completely different since it has no stretch to act as spring or cushion against uneven casts.
