Posted by ChumBucket Many people here fish for perch near shore with light spinning rods, but few fish with long rods. People do off Cape Hatteras in North Carolina, but not much here. I recently bought a Purglas blank (400-2) and had my rod wrapper finish it with the reel seat way down low like I see in many Aussie and South African photos. (I've been spying...and learning from you I wonder if there is a reason why I should not use spectra as a shock leader. I just picked up the rod today and wrapped 14 meters of 60lb mono onto my 18lb main line. The 60lb is so thick, it got me wondering about using spectra as either the shock leader or just spooling 60lb spectra on the whole reel and fishing that. Also, is it OK to use a lighter leader for the bait. I was thinking of using a three way swivel with the 60lb running to the sinker (max 6oz) and using 20lb flurocarbon off the other nub to the bait. All help appreciated as I have never fished this kind of equipment before. Luck would have it that the wind is blowing a steady 20 knots gusting to 30 today so I can't try out my new toy. Thight lines, ChumBucket AKA Douglas Handley
