You definetly have the right live bait clip. I generally unclip the 'twisty bit' at the top and discard that swivel. To operate. one has to leave the 'twisty bit' unclipped so as to attach it to the mainline. Simply lay the mainline across the open section and turn it through all the turns until it is down the middle of the 'twistyt bit' with the main stem pointing out towards your stopper/weight. Then clip the hooked bit back onto the main section. Now the clip should slide easily in one direction, but 'lock' onto the line in the opposit direction.
These clips are readily available from Ranger Camping and Fishing in Hutton Street, Osborne Park, Perth, WA. They come in three different sizes, with the middle size being the most versatile.
