Alvey is great equipment and please go to ausfish.com to get a good idea of the mechanics and physics of this fishing system. You must have a rod made to work with the alvey sidecast reel. Most important feature, first oline guide must be half the distance form the reel seat to the rod tip!. 2nd reel seat must be 6-8 inches from butt of rod. I've used alvey gear for 33 years. It's the best, strongest, biggest line capacity, no gears to foul, star drag equipped, free spool in both directions, easy to maintain reel in the world, period. check them out, then enjoy the longest most accurate casting system or boat fishing gear in the world.
