Pod fishing

About twenty years ago I read an Australian fishing book which mentioned pod fishing ( surf fishing from a temporarily erected three legged contraption in the surf, whereby the angler could fish greater depths as the tide came in. Could someone please tell me if this is still done and if so where can information/photos be found which illustate this practice.
