Alvey Surfcasters

Hi Guys, I'm a surfcaster from New England and was thinking about buying an Alvey setup out of cabelas. Nobody that I know, knows much about the Alvey set up. For casting bait I use a 11" foot ugly stick, I need something for jigging/casting lures. Do you use a alvey to cast plugs/lure or do you mainly use it to cast bait?
