Posted by Andy Woodford We introduced catch and release to the club last year and this year it will be running during the field day competition. Each angler is given a catch and release card on which he fills in the length, and estimated weight of any fish that he wants to release. Then, if there is one present, he gets the card signed by a witness. The cards are then handed in at the weigh in and the weights are confirmed from tables that have been supplied to the club from the fisheries dept. or by experience. Some species such as herring are awarded a nominal 100 grammes. The weights awarded are not 100% accurate, but they are fairly close and as you say, it enables you to release fish rather than kill them for the sake of points. The surfcasters have also tried to limit their eligable species list to table fish only. No buff bream or rock fish are eligable for the competition. Wobbie's are not allowed to be weighed in as they are too easy to target on the reefs. Thanks for the positive feedback. It's good to see that the direction that the club is heading is well thought of by those outside of the club. Cheers Andy
