JSTS Gifts & Recreation 1962 - 63
Posted by Colin Cowie on October 18, 2007, 18:41:39 In 1962, summer I think, we were gifted by the Nuffield Trust, a speedboat, 2 beefy Evenrude outboards, two sets of waterskis and a mono ski (which I could never master). Great fun was had with this outfit. Although a couple of us RN types were tranied coxswains, it didn't interupt some crazy syunts. The worst that happended however was that one of our RSTS colleagues who ws enoying a quiet hour in a boat fishing in the bay had a large wart on his hand removed by the ski tow which whipped across his boat as I went one side with the boat and the skier went the other! The go karts mentioned by Nick Carter were another superb bit of kit (I'll post Mark some photos of tese when I get my password etc from him). The boat came in useful when the Nurse on the Island said that her husband who was Quarter Master Sergeant at Li Chi Kok base, was complaining that the acqua lung diving kit given to the Army by Nuffield had never been taken out in two years. I said we would be gald to take it off his hands if he agreed. He did and I went over to the base and picked up two complete sets of Acqua Lung Diving gear which was quickly pressed into use. Was any of this equipment still in use on the Island when you chaps got there in the 70's? Kind Regards

We should be able to track when and where it all went from various future posts, I for one am curious!!! I wonder if they went to Tamar? p.s. Access info emailed direct to you today.
