The spelling of this ancestor's name varies a bit. She was 24 years old in 1860 (Wisc. census)and had daughters ages 6, 4, and 2. The census says she was born in New York. The middle daughter married a Union Veteran and his obit names her mother's maiden name, Stoddard.
Amarlda's husband, Henry Tuphorn came to America "because of his participation in the 1858 Rebellion" in Germany. They settled in Sparta, Wisc. and she disappeared after the 1870 census where she was enumerated as being 35 years old.
I am just beginning research on this female ancestor and any information about the Stoddards of New York would be appreciated.
