: Hello Donna
: Thanks for the great information. I don't
: believe this is our line, but I hope that
: someone of that line contacts you. I do
: know that there was a John and Mary Stoddard
: living in Cleveland in 1850. John was born
: about 1767 in Massachusetts and Mary abt
: 1878, also in Massachusetts. In the 1850
: Census, two of their children were born in
: New York; Jerusha, abt 1818, and William,
: abt 1820. John is listed as a merchant in
: that census with property valued at $5000 (a
: somewhat sizeable amount for 1850)
:
: Also in the same Ward (2) in Cleveland
: (1850) is Newton and Grace. It's possible
: that Newton is John's son as he was born in
: New York in 1817 (close to the other two
: children of John) and Grace was born in
: England, abt 1820. They have 5 children in
: 1850.
:
: Just some information to add to your
: research into the items in your possession.

Hello Martin,
I don't check this site often, but did locate
some information that I had gathered in 1999
from the Historical Society. William Stoddard
59 Lincoln Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio (Lincoln Avenue is now known as East 83rd, now owned
by the Cleveland Clinic. I only have a copy
of the twelfth census of the United States
Cleveland Township Ward 21, the problem is
the notes I had written are still missing
somewhere in my home, and the photo copy of
this census is not very legible. From what
I can read, with magnifier is William born
in New York, 1856 and both of his parents
wer born in New York. His wife, possibly
Georgiana Born in Ohio, his son born 1885
in Illinois, I believe his name reads Frederick
of Frank and daughter, born New York, 1887,
name could be Antoinette. Tried to find
on line records, or to revisit Historical
Society to retrieve legible records again.
Don't ask me why I am on this mission, but
it is very interesting. Thanks again for
responding. By the way, earlier I googled
Stoddard and found an author A. Stoddard
female wrote several books, one of which
I am trying to locate regarding Color and
Design, something I am also interested in.
Perhaps there is a connection there also.
Take care and signing out from Cleveland, Ohio
(East suburbs)
Donna Marie
