It's possible that Newton is John's son as he was born in New York in 1817 (close to the other two children of John) and Grace was born in England, abt 1820. They have 5 children in 1850. Just some information to add to your research into the items in your possession.

Thanks for the great information. I don't believe this is our line, but I hope that someone of that line contacts you. I do know that there was a John and Mary Stoddard living in Cleveland in 1850. John was born about 1767 in Massachusetts and Mary abt 1878, also in Massachusetts. In the 1850 Census, two of their children were born in New York; Jerusha, abt 1818, and William, abt 1820. John is listed as a merchant in that census with property valued at $5000 (a somewhat sizeable amount for 1850)
