Charles Heman Stoddard of Camden, Alabama was asked by a northern Stoddard family member to bring a young Stoddard cousin out to California towards the end of the Civil War. She became a ward of the Stanfords, who were - at the time - the President of Berkely College in the East Bay. Charles returned to northern Nevada and settled near Carson City and, later Reno. Charles Heman was a direct decendant of "Old Anthony" as is listed in our family bible. We know mostly the lineage of our direct ancestry, but not much more of the other branches and cousins. I'd love to find out more about all the cousins I'm seeing in this forum! I only know some of the Texas clan, Annette and Charley.
