Posted by Kay Fordham The 1900 census of Bangor, Van Buren County, Michigan shows Charles Stoddard born Aug 1846 and wife “Nealie” born Dec 1856. There are several children listed but your Charles is already out of the home. The 1880 Watervliet, Berrien County, Michigan census shows Charles Stoddard, age 30 (this does not track with other census records), with wife Cornelia, age 23. Several children listed including your Daniel, age 1. Of interest is a nephew Seneca Stoddard, age 14, residing in the home. Searching for a Seneca Stoddard in the 1870 census I find him at age 5 in the household of Edward, age 42 (born about 1828) and Orilla Stoddard in Watervliet, Berrien County, Michigan. These would appear to be his parents. Of great interest is a Charles, age 24 (birth about 1846), residing in the home. This is most likely your Charles living with his older brother Edward and nephew Seneca mentioned in the 1880 census. Now going to the 1860 census to look for Edward and Charles with parents – I find the following: George Stoddard, age 46 (born about 1814 in Mass) without a wife and with several children including Edward, age 21 (born about 1829), and Stanley, age 14 (born about 1846 and you said Charles’ middle name was Stanley). A marriage index for Charles Stanley Stoddard and Carnealy/Carmelia Stickney shows they were married in Berrien, MI, on 23 Dec 1873. Based upon the above, your Charles Stanley Stoddard was born in 1846 rather than 1864 as you stated. Also he was married in 1873 rather than 1875 as you stated.
