I'm aware that Eleazer Mather was Increase Mather's brother and Cotton's uncle. Cotton's roll in the witchcraft turmoil is well documented. Unfortunately, I can find no info revealing Solomon Stoddard's position on the trials.
: There may be another connection between the
: Stoddards and the Salem Witchcraft trials:
: Solomon Stoddard, son of Anthony of Boston
: married Esther Warham Mather, widow of Rev.
: Eleazar Mather of Salem. The Rev.was Cotton
: Mather's uncle. Do you have further info on
: this connection? Thank you.

: Anyone in the Anthony of Boston line may be
: interested in my recent discovery:
: Our ancestor Emanuel Downing, Anthony's
: father-in-law, owned the house rented by
: John and Elizabeth Proctor, key figures in
: the Salem Witchcraft trials (and Arthur
: Miller's play "The Crucible"
:
: John Proctor was hanged as a witch, but
: Elizabeth was spared because she was
: pregnant. The house, which still stands
: (see website below), was later sold by
: Downing's ancestors to Proctor's ancestors!
