Curious as to whether or not, you've been able to find anything further about the Scottish Stoddards. I too have "heard" legends of Stoddard being a standard bearer for William but have found no specific evidence of such. Would love to find anything factual. My husband's line as far as we can tell goes through John of Wethersfield, CT which of course came from England. Any additional insight you could give to where in England would be helpful. Thanks

: my mother used to say stoddard was a norman
: name meaning standard bearer and the

: name having something to do with horse care
: and can find no evidence they came to
: england with william. many of my ancestors
: who were also stoddard ancestors came to
: england with william and that may be the
: reason mom thought the stoddards came with

: The Stoddard Family Association has records
: on
: over 150,000 Stoddards. Beause of the volume
: of keeping track of all of these names we
: have not done much with Scottish Clans, so
: we
: cannot answer your question.
: Perhaps you can find the information that
: you
: are looking for by searching for Scottish
: Clans on the internet.
