The Stoddard Manufacturing Company was incorporated in 1884 as a major manufacturer of farming implements. The Stoddard Manufacturing Company was best known for the manufacture of their famous Tiger Rake and the Tiger Harrow. In 1904 John Stoddard turned to making the Stoddard-Dayton automobile. A Stoddard-Dayton won the first race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1909 and was the pace car for the first Indianapolis 500 in 1911.
