The SOUNDS of the Shofar FILLED THE AIR here in Central Texas, in Waco at approx 9:15 pm CST
If you have not checked all the posts this week, then you may just now be finding out about a very trying ordeal my family endured when on the way home from a long distance trip, about 70 miles north of Waco, our car had a blow out and my dog Spanky either flew out, or jumped out of the window at 70 miles per hour and cartwheeled wildly as I watched in horror helpless to stop as I was simultaneously struggling to regain control of the vehicle and get it safely off the road.
After bringing the car to a complete stop I made my way back crying, yelling for my dog. I was frantic. He was nowhere to be found. When a man in a large black truck pulled up and asked "did you just lose a dog on the highway?" I said "yes" and he said "he is at my house" and I asked if he was alive and the man said "Yes" and I collapsed to my knees in tears. The man drove over and I got in his truck and when we got to his home, Spanky was already gone. For two tear filled hours I cried out through that neighborhood for my dog. Ultimately I had to turn my attention to my human family, and Cinnamon one of our female boxers also with us, to get the rest of us to safety. The Car would not start and we were stranded. The police took us to town and dropped us at a local hotel. My wife and son slept on the grass on the side of the Holiday Inn Express while I sat on a bench and stood watch the entire night. The next morning, we made our way to a picnic table by a Sno Cone stand in the front corner of a Parking lot for a Brookshire Brothers Grocery Store. The people of that town were amazing. People brought us bottled water, several offered money and we refused, one man in particular offered several times to which we refused. People brought us food, kept stopping to check on us, offered my wife and son blankets the night prior, and all day stopped to check on us while I slept on a picnic table as my wife and son stood watch in the daylight hours as we waited 7 hours for family to arrive from about 250 miles away to help with our car.
A mechanic in the town would tell me how to fix my car for free, which was great as we had no money and my dad only came to help get the car towed to a mechanic in Alvarado as he had only the gas money to come get us back to Waco.
The problem was a simple thing and we had the car running in no time. I still needed a tire, and a woman came up to our Picnic table at the end of the day, and held out two $20 bills, and said..."I am a person of Faith and you may not want to take this from me, but I believe God told me to give this to you to help you get your car troubles taken care of!" I smiled, and replied, "Mam, We too are people of Faith, and I was just praying for a way to get another tire on my car and your $40 is exactly the amount I need to get a used tire!" She smiled and started praising YAH' loudly for using her in answer to our prayers, and I joined in with her. It was there I asked her if she had ever heard a SHOFAR. She said no, and I explained that such was blown at different occasions, and in some occasions for rejoicing and victory and praise, and SO I sounded the Shofar, but upon getting to the cadence "TERULAH"...the Weeping Cadence, the Mourning Cadence, my heart was heavy for the absence of my dog, my buddy Spanky, and I refused to sound the Trump further.
So we got a tire, drove home to Waco. Wednesday morning The Lord told me it was imperative I get back to Alvarado as soon as possible to get my dog. I told my wife to call the guy whose home he was last seen at and "Tell him we will be there tomorrow to pass out flyers and look for Spanky". Lisa replied, "Steve, we can't go back tomorrow, we don't have the gas or money!" I replied, "The LORD WILL PROVIDE." She called the man, told we would be back on Friday which would have been two days later.
Later in the day, a woman who heard about our story, contacted me online and offered to give us money for both the printing of flyers, and gas to make the trip back to Alvarado, telling me the LORD had impressed upon her that it was imperative we go back to look for our dog as soon as possible. When my wife woke later, I told her to prepare, that were indeed going back the next day, that The LORD had indeed provided. By the next morning two other people had contacted me offering money to add to the $400 reward we were posting, using money that was supposed to be used to get my riding mower back out of the Pawn shop. I thanked them, told them to wait, and lets hope it would not be neccessary and we headed back up to Alvarado.
This Sabbath seems all that much more special dueOUR Answered Prayer...Spanky being found! Each Sabbath, I sound the Shofar. When we went back up to Alvarado The LORD told me to take my Shofar. At a business near where he was last seen, I asked permission to blow the Shofar, explaining we are Sabbath Keepers, and each Sabbath I sound the Shofar. I went on to note, that by experience I knew that sounding it had the potential to have every dog within a 1/2 mile to 1 mile radius howling as the Shofar is a very loud, black rams horn Trumpet, mine came from Jerusalem years ago. But I also noted that my dog, if in that Radius would certainly not only hear, but he would know, his "Daddy" was nearby, he would know it was me. For years I have been of the mindset to believe that even Animals pray to The LORD.
We passed out Flyers all day, and at 3pm, I told Lisa, "We are going to pass out flyers until 4pm, and then stop and come back to this neighborhood sunday to pick up where we left off so we can go hang flyers at local businesses." At 4pm at the last house we went too, Lisa knocked on the door, and no one answered. She went to leave flyers on the windshield of the vehicle in the driveway and I had been led to call for Spanky. She then did likewise and a minute or so later as she walked to our car the back door of the house opened and an elderly gentleman, Robert Elliot came out and spoke with Lisa and I. We shared our flyer with him and he said he thought he saw Spanky a few days prior at his front drive. He had large lot, about 2 or 3 acres and told Lisa, "Sometimes dogs take up in our old Horsebarn, we have not been there ourselves in years, but you may want to check it out if you like." Lisa thanked him and yelled to me..."he said I can look in his barn!"
There was an old tin shed about a half acre back and we both thought that to be what the man referred to. When Lisa got to it, I saw her pause and continue to the woodline another half acre back. She told me later that at the tin shed, she heard a voice (of the LORD) speak to her plainly..."Don't stop here, this is not the barn, keep looking!" and so she continued. When she got to the tree line I yelled her name, was going to call her back but The Lord spoke to me and said, "She needs to do this, she needs to keep looking, let her go." So I held my toungue. I could not see a barn, only trees, but there turned out to be an old Horse Barn.
The Lord had told me that morning just prior to arriving to Alvarado as I drove north, "GO AND GET YOUR DOG!" I inquired, "Lord are you telling me we are going to find Spanky" I was told "NO...I am telling you to GO AND GET YOUR DOG!"
When my wife was led of the Lord to the abandoned Horse barn hidden from view from the road by much overgrowth, after finding Spanky, he would not come for her, she Started yelling, "Steve, I found him, I found Spanky, but he won't move..." and I started to put stuff back in the trunk and drive the car through the field that had once been a pasture, but recalled what I had been told earlier "GO AND GET YOUR DOG!" And so I left the car and started walking across that field, in very much pain I may add, due "phantom pains" in my stump, but I assure you while called "PHANTOM PAINS" they are very, very real. As I walked through the trees I could see the barn overtaken by vines and brush and could hear Lisa as she said..."He won't move, he is hiding and won't come out..." I told her..."HE will come out for his Daddy!" And he did too! Once he seen me, I called him to get up, and he did and Once he stood up and came to me he just looked at me with a "What took you so long?" look on his face. IT had been several hours since I had sounded the Shofar and we had canvased house to house in the neighborhood behind that business. The Horse barn was approx 500 yards from where the business was that I sounded the Shofar. It was comforting to know through the day he may have heard it, it was more so upon finding him to know indeed, he certainly had.
Tuesday I sounded the Shofar in the parking lot of the "Brookshire Brothers" grocery Store to Praise Yah for the generosity of the town, but I did not sound all the cadences. I sounded "Tekiah", "Shivarim" and then "Terulah"...the Weeping Cadence which represents MOURNING, and I stopped there, citing the LORD I would wait to sound "TEKIAH GEDOLAH" the final call of the Shofar,"Tekiah Gedolah" in that parking lot until AFTER we found Spanky. "Tekiah Gedolah" is a call of Judgement in some cases, but also a CALL OF VICTORY, the CALL of the SHOFAR which is prophesied to sound at the "7th Trump" in Revelations when the Kingdoms of this earth are "Become the Kingdoms of OUR LORD and HIS CHRIST." Before leaving Alvarado Texas yesterday, Thursday, we stopped back in that parking lot where we camped out most of the day Tuesday waiting on family to come help us, and I sounded the Shofar again, this time giving the cadence "Tekiah Gedolah" as Spanky sat int he back seat listening!
Amazingly, Spanky suffered no broken bones from his fall and subsequent tumbling after exiting our car window at 60 to 70 mph. He is sore, was dehydrated, but is better now, taking tramadol for pain, and a veterinary grade salve to tend to his areas of road rash!
I wish to Praise YAH' this Sabbath, for keeping my buddy Safe!
