Joseph,
I' am desperate for some answer, maybe you can help me? I went through an IVF cycle last year @ NYU which was successful. I was 39 turning 40, by the tenth week of pregnancy the heartbeat stopped. I went for a D&C. The report came back as trisomy 22 with a extra chromosome. The chromosome complement 47,xy+ 7/46,xx46,xx 13(probable maternal cell contamination). The karyotope of this fetus is 47,xy,+22, the report read's Trisomy 22 with congenital diagragmatic hernia and absense of corpus callosum. It was recommended that my husband and I seek genetic counseling. We saw a counselor. The counselor explained, the report, he did not feel it was my material age and he did not recommend PGD testing for IVF. He also said, that a miscarrage of this type would probably not reoccure if we tried another cycle of IVF. My husband and I went to another IVF specialist for insurance purpose (NYU did not except our coverage). Again, I was successful in achieving pregnancy, by the 10th week the pregnancy teminated in the same exact way the first pregnancy. I went for a d&c last week so I have not recieved the report yet. My questions, are all my eggs no good. The genetic counseler said that he was able to look at my husband chromosome which appeared to be normal and most of mine. He didn't feel that furthur testing was required but now that I had another miscarraige the same identical way maybe he was wrong. Why didn't the counsler recommend furthur testing the fist time? If I am a carrier of a chromosome disorder is there a blood test or any test they can do to let me know this. There is no history on either side of our family of chromosome disorders. I also have a healty 15 year old son from a previous marriage. The IVF doctor reccommends PGD testing if I was to try again does the PGD test pin point these type of chromosome disorders or am I justing waisting time and money. Is the thought of a healthy baby for my husband and I not realistic.
Thank You
Maria L. Kelly
