Iam the mother of a 22 month old daughter who was born with trisomy 22. Although I did have a some what difficult pregnancy, mainly due to stress because of signs that there may be a problem with the baby. The doctors routine testing did not catch the trisomy 22 and I did not have amniocentesis. Elizabeth was born full term and did face some serious medical problems such as a malrotation of the bowel which needed immediate surgery. She also had a cleft palate which was repaired successfully at 18 months old. She has two heart defects a atrial septal defect and a bicuspid aortic valve. No surgery has been needed to correct these problems however she is followed closely by a cardiologist.
Although we have had some rough times and she has been through a lot, Elizabeth is an extremely happy baby. Her personality is beautiful and anyone who is around her can't help but feel good. She has taught our family a lot and we can't imagine life without her. I am 22 and this is my first child. I wish you the best of luck and my prayers are with you.

: This is my first pregnancy, and my
: unborn little girl has Complete
: Trisomy 22. The doctors said that she
: will only last a max of 2 weeks afters
: she's born. Is this true? Could they
: be wrong? They also said that babies
: with this disorder usually are the
: one's that die in the first trimester,
: but i'm already 23 weeks. She's very
: active inside. They said I should
: start planning on a burial place for
: her, and to think about who I want to
: be there when she's born, like a
: priest. I just don't know if it's all
: true, I guess I don't believe it. Has
: this happened to anyone else? Did the
: baby live.
