DiGeorge Sequence, which can be due to many causes, is most commonly caused by velocardiofacial syndrome, a 22q deletion syndrome(there are two, of which VCFS is more common). I haven't heard of a connection between VCFS and autism, although kids with VCFS can have social difficulties(although described as immaturity, which is different from autistic social difficulties) and obsessive compulsive disorder, which overlaps with autism(the big difference between the two is how the person feels about their rituals, autistic people enjoy them, OCDers don't. A person can have both though). They are described as having a higher risk for conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, but plenty don't have any major mental illnesses throughout their lifespan. They can have a mild delay in language skills, as well as articulation and breath problems. They usually have some learning differences, such as difficulty with abstraction, dyscalcula, poor reading comprehension and ADHD, and a few have IQs in the 50-70 range(most have normal IQs). Some of them are mildly hard of hearing, of the conductive type(they are prone to ear infections as well), so you might want to check that. Occasionally they will also have sensorineural hearing loss unilaterally. Lastly, remember that neurological differences are rarely all bad, and most are part of who the person is, especially autism spectrum conditions. You should read www.autistics.org/library/dontmourn.html . It's written by an autistic person about autism, but applies to a wide variety of cognitive differences.
