Jennifer - We have not tried IVF/PGD. We have had four natural pregnancies - two early miscarriages and two unbalanced boys (my breakpoints cause basically full Trisomy 22).
From the women I talk on the balanced translocation board very few have had a positive outcome with IVF/PGD and those who do normally face several cycles and thousands of dollars in costs (I guess there are some limited insurance plans that will cover it, but most do not). Those with failed cycles often go on to have a healthy child/children on their own. To me it just isn't worth the money, mental or physical challenges with the science that is avialable today. However, science is ever evolving and in five years my guess is it will be a different story.
I would really encourage you to join the balanced translocation group. The women have a great depth of knowledge into all aspects of translocation, including IVF/PGD and other alternative like IUI, egg/sperm donation and embryo adoption. They are all very open to share their stories which gives you a good overview of what has/hasn't worked. I am just one experience and one opinion.
Good luck!

: Jennifer - Do you carry a duplication,
: deletion or translocation? If you
: carry a translocation I would
: encourage you to join the yahoo
: balanced translocation group - on the
: health boards. This is a frequent
: topic of discussion. Success rates
: vary but normally IVF with PGD is not
: very effective in balanced
: translocation cases. There are
: questions as to whether or not good
: eggs are tossed, etc, and then there
: is no guarentee that the egg does not
: have another deletion, duplication or
: translocation as they only check for
: 13, 18, 21 and the issues at hand. The
: science is relatively new though so
: advances are likely.
