: Joseph,
: I got my results back yesterday. I
: had a boy, with trisomy 14. I have
: the other info at home and will post
: it in hopefully this weekend. The Dr
: is sending me to Dartmouth to a
: geneticist. I am really scared I dont
: know what this means, or what to do or
: think. Do you know anything about
: trisomy 14?
: Thanks

: Most embryos with full trisomy 22 do
: not
: survive, but there is a small number
: of
: reports of complete trisomy 22 in the
: newborns. Usually such children have
: very serious defects. There is no
: treatment except treatment for
: symptoms
: (for example, heart surgery for heart
: defects, etc.).
: From the genetic point of view trsiomy
: 22 may be basically in two forms: free
: trisomy 22 (karyotype 47,XX,+22 or
: 47,XY,+22) or trsiomy 22 as a result
: of
: translocation.
: If embryo or fetus has free trisomy
: 22,
: it is a new mutation practically with
: 0
: risk of recurrence. If trisomy 22 is
: caused by translocation, risk will
: depend on the karyotype of the
: parents.
: Because you use term "trisomy
: 22" without cytogenetic formula,
: I
: can't give precise conclusion for the
: families who participate in this
: discussion. You can contact me
: personally, if you want.
: Best wishes
: Joseph

: : Laura,
: I am glad that it worked out for you.
: Are you trying again? I am doing ok,
: the dr put me on Prozac and Effexer.
: They numb it a bit, so that I can get
: thru the day. I am seeing my
: therapist
: too. It is really scary, so I am
: trying to open my mind to other
: possibilities. My fiance and I have
: been discussing surrogate mother,
: sperm donor, and adoption. We are
: trying to get prepared for whatever he
: throws at us.
: Thanks for the kind words.
: Hugs

: : I am soo sorry! I know this is a
: really hard thing to go through and I
: hope you get some answers soon. The
: genetic counselor I saw said I should
: have no problems getting pg on my own
: and I hope you get good news as well,
: the next few day or weeks will be
: really hard, if you need to talk
: please
: feel free to email me.

: I dont know anything about this except
: that I am having a dnc tomorrow to
: complete my third miscarriage. They
: are doing the biopsy this time, and
: they told me I may never have a baby
: of
: my own. Can you tell me abou this
: genetic counselor? Any info you guys
: have would be greatly appreciated.

: I have been having recurrent
: miscarriages
: and with my last miscarriage we
: decided
: to do some genetic testing. The
: results came back that there was an
: extra 22nd chromosome. I am meeting
: with a genetic counselor next week,
: but
: I was wondering if any of you could
: give me some insight as to what I
: should expect. I have a two yo son
: now, whom other than being small is
: perfectly healthy kid. I am so scared
: thay this maybe something that affects
: him and was wondering if I would have
: already noticed anything that was
: wrong
: or if maybe there are things that show
: later in life.
: Thanks!
