: Veronica,
: My name is Jennifer and I just had a
: little girl with trisomy 22.11q. I'm
: wondering what to expect
: developementally from her as well as
: in the future. Anything you could
: tell me would be wonderfull as it
: sounds like you'r daughter is
: extremely well.
:
: Thank you,
: Jenn

: From what I have been told Trisomy 22,
: like Trisomy 18 and 13, is a fluke
: that can happen at any point in cell
: division from fertilization on (mosaic
: versus non-mosaic). If it was not
: caused by a translocation of
: chromosomes, neither you or your
: husband would be a carrier. Just a
: fluke. Although your chances of having
: another affected child are greater
: (even though still very small).
:
: On the other hand if the Trisomy was
: caused by a translocation of
: chromosomes either you or your husband
: could be a carrier. If they thought
: this was the case my guess is they
: would have tested.
:
: I am surprised that your physician did
: not offer to have you meet with a
: genetics counselor. I would request a
: meeting to discuss your circumstances
: since every case differs.
:
: Hope this helps.

: I am looking for information on
: Complete
: Trisomy 22. I have recently miscarried
: for the second time in six months. I
: was told that the miscarriage was due
: to complete Trisomy 22. There was an
: additional 22 chromosome seen in each
: metaphase. I have two healthy
: children, are they carriers of this
: gene as well? For this rare
: abnormality to occur, do both my
: husband and I have to be carriers? Any
: answers would be great! Could this
: have occured during fertilization or
: cell division? Looking for answers!
: Thanks, Beth
: Jennifer - Sorry it took this long to get back to you. My granddaughter is Bree with 11/22 Translocation/Trisomy. Her Mom's name is Jennifer too. Breanna will be 11 on April 4th and is doing well. She has learned to scoot down to end of bed now & get herself down. The hole in her heart she was born with closed. Her lungs are better. She is a very happy little girl but lets you know when she gets upset by something. Loves to clap. Don't get discouraged it takes a special mother to be given the gift of a special child. Hope to talk with you again.
