Unbalanced translocation 22/16

My son has an unbalanced translocation of chromosome 22 and 16, inherited from myself who forunately carries in a balanced form. We were told he was profoundly deaf, but after a year his hearing has been found to be near normal. He does however have a huge gap between his hearing/understanding and his communication/speech. Does anyone out there have a child with this problems and if so, do you have any tips for me?
