Hello Everyone, its me Joe Sarcone at EPA and I need some help. There are two very interesting sessions for the Alaska Forum on the Environment that are in need of presenters with first hand village experience on the session topics. Here are the session titles, descriptions and times, hope you can share your experience on these important topics with the other AFE participants:
Title: Rural Issues: Addressing the environmental impact of rural schools
Date: Monday, February 2, 2009
Time: 2 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. Alaska Time
Description: Schools in rural communities continue to raise environmental issues for villages including leaking sewage lagoons, air pollution from burning trash, disproportionate delivery of water service to teacher housing versus other residential housing, non-biodegradable food service containers and utensils, and e-waste disposal to dump sites.
This session will bring together school officals and village environmental staff who have taken these issues on and have made progress in addressing them.

Title: Rural Issues: The impact of construction and demolition (C&D) waste on rural dump sites - case studies and solutions
Date: Tuesday, February 3, 2009
Time: 3:30 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. Alaska Time
Description: Renovation and new construction of clinics, schools, washeterias, and other community buildings all have one thing in common: the generation of construction and demolition (C&D) waste. All too often this C&D waste makes it into the village dump site in ways that negatively impact access, health and saftey, the environment, and the life exectancy of the dump site. This session will present case studies and solutions for working with the funders and contractors for projects that produce C&D waste. In addition, attendees will be asked to share their challenges and explore solutions.
