Hi! Just to follow up with our first posting concerning the ICC: First an introduction, I am Cachet Garrett, the statewide coordinator for this event across the state of Alaska. Ray, Dixie and I are located in Juneau, where we will host the internet concert. Please email iccalaska@hotmail.com if you wish to be involved with the clean-up in your city, town or village.
We are looking for "site captains" in all areas. As a site captain, you will be in charge of promoting the event locally and receiving (via postal service) materials for the cleanup (bags, gloves, data cards, etc.) that will be sent out next month, and also for getting them back to us.
The data cards are how we track what kind of trash is turning up where, and how many people are coming out for the clean-up, etc. This is a key aspect of ICC, which leads to the formulation of an international report that will be published soon after the event.
With this kind of report, we hope to initiate behavioral changes in individuals, as well as change at the political level.
Check out more info on ICC at oceanconservancy.org, click on "activities" and follow the link to International Coastal Cleanup. You can also register to be a volunteer on that website.
Thank you so much!
Clean oceans forever,
Cachet Garrett
