MLD for short, and it stands for Metachromatic Leukodystrophy. It is a hereditary disease, both parents have to be carriers to pass it on to their child.
The child is born normal and then as they reach 2 or 3 years old they begin to be affected by this disease. They slowly lose their ability to eat, walk or stand, and affects the body muscles, etc. And they eventually put a feeding tube to help keep the child nourished, and they have to take muscle relaxant medication and other medications. It affects the neurological system that is why they lose all these abilities, and begin to be like a helpless newborn baby. Eventually the child passes on at some point.
It is hard losing your child to this awful disease, and to watch them become helpless. But God is there to help us to cope with this, prayers and lots of support from family.
If you go to google and type in Metachromatic Leukodystrophy you will be able to get information.
