Posted by crossada75 My apartment's air conditioner started malfunctioning yesterday, which was a hot, humid day. It used to give frequent or constant trouble, but it has worked fine for two years or so, until yesterday. Its fan still blows, but just blows warm air. Leave the thermostat set on 73 or 74, and it'll stay about 80 or 81 until late in the night, when it cools down some. So now I uneasily await the arrival of the maintenance man. I hope he won't track in any dog crap, or see anything incriminating or "suspicious." I have to run around hiding anything I don't want the landlord or the law to hear about. You migt be surprised what they think is suspicious, or grounds for eviction. I'm sure the problem is with the actual compressor, which is up on the roof, outside, and not with the motor, which is inside my ceiling, above a trap door in the ceiling, and only accessible from inside. I'd bet money the compressor has lost most of its freon or whatever they use instead these days, and just needs to have some more added, or have a leak patched or something, all of which would have to be done outside on the roof. But I know he will want to come inside anyway. They always do. I really hate having them in here. I can probably hide most of the "suspicious" objects and books and things temporarily, but there's no way I can keep this place as neat and tidy as people think it should be. I have a big house-full of stuff in a small apartment, and it's cluttered. Man, what a dream I had before I woke up. It had the late Lee Marvin in it, more-or-less playing the old sergeant from _The Big Red 1_ (1980?). I was not particularly a lee Marvin fan, and have never dreamed about him before, that I know of. He and I got into a discussion about helmets, and I was saying something about how the old WW II-type helmet was more protectiion than people thought -- that they thought because it couldn't protect against a high-powered, high-velocity rifle it was no good, but in fact it was good protection against rleatively low-velocity but still deadly threats like, say, a .45 pistol bullet. Marvin (who was dressed in full WW II uniform and combat gear, including helmet and slung rifle and holstered .45, did not disagree with that, but angrily rebuked me for something else, pertaining to a dumb question he thought I'd asked, I think. Then he went into another part of the dimly lit house we were in. The house was apprently under some kind of seige, and at some point *was* invaded by what appeared to be weird, trick-or-treater-like kids -- a Goth-looking girl and a boy whose costume I can't recall. The latter was going around *spraying* everyone and everything in the place with some liquid, which I gather was dangerous or harmful in some way. Meanwhile, I head a muffled gunshot and a groan from the other room. Later, after some more trouble with the weird "trick-or-treaters" and some conversations I can't recall with other housemates, I went into the front room with some kid from the house, who was apparently on our side. There we found Lee Marvin lying dead on a blood- and brain-spattered sofa. He had removed his .45-proof helmet and shot himself in the head with his .45, and was quite dead. The kid with me, who was apparently a huge fan of Marvin's, was highly upset, as you might imagine. He fled the room weeping hysterically. Then Marvin's ghost appeared to me, and we had another talk, in which I rebuked him for his thoughtless, inconsiderate act, exposing the kid who loved him to such a sight. I can't remember what his response was, if any. Then there was some action outside, out front, like enemy troop movements or maneuvers of some kind, something about a low bridge and shallow waters, and that was all I could remember when I woke up. There must have been a lot more, though. I was sweating plenty when I woke up, and it hasn't even gotten hot in here yet. Cross --Previous Message--

I rarely go there recently, but I tried to get on the SFMB too last night, just to see if I could find out what was the matter with the PPMB -- and I couldn't get on there either.
: Yeah, it started for me about ten last night.
: I'd just posted a fic on SFMB when it all
: went down - I haven't been able to get on
: since.
:
: Oh, well. This is what happens when you have
: both primary boards on the same server...

: I haven't been able to since late Tuesday
: afternoon. I just keep getting the
: "Page cannot be displayed" message
: or something similar.:o(
:
: Anyone else here who frequents the PPMB?
: Any idea what's the matter with it? I had
: some things to say there and I haven't been
: able to. Also, I miss the people there I
: think of as friends. I even miss some of
: those who aren't my friends.
:
: I don't *think the problem is with my
: computer. I think there's some problem with
: the board itself.
:
: Well, thanks to anyone who can let me know
: something.
