Although the staggered branch pattern in his models would shade each other and many of the branches would not be facing true south, the modules would still produce some power....but not very efficiently.
I noticed that he states that he sees a 20% gain in open circuit current. Not sure if that's a misprint or what....you can have open circuit voltage or short circuit current but there's no such thing as open circuit current. Could be a mistake by the article's author.
Where the true test comes in is when you use the modules to power something and observe their efficiency. I bet it's really, really low.
I also hope he keeps experimenting.....maybe there's hope for the next generation!
