The huge farms make out the best in this all the time, they have the resources to have full time accountants and paper work people to go milk out the system and get the loans/grants, etc plus speculate in the market. Smaller farmers don't have the time, knowledge or resources to do this and wind up going broke.
And we are losing all the field protections developed after the dust bowl days because of the nutso system they have now. The mass rush to grow corn corn and more corn has farmers stripping the shelter belt trees to get a few more acres out, that and running drain tiles in the fields, resulting in more erosion down the road.
