Been a while since I kept chickens. Had RI Red sex-link cross, and caponised White Leghorns. I do believe you've talked me out of the chickens -- at least for this year. But will be needing to make a wading pool on the hillside spring flow for the ducks. Yeah, I remember having duck eggs at a friend's -- one is a meal! And the gegunda yolks!!
I knew that Daisy and Donald wuz good garden help. How about geese? Am stone's throw from a river that has resident Canadas constantly flying about sounding like a traffic jam. Guineas? I like the idea, but not sure how much our resident rodent controller will. Where do ya even look to git 'em, and how much?
I've been wondering myself about being so close to a major route amid the chaos that's surely to be coming. It seemed a lot more distant future when we made the deal here but we're, for the moment, committed to stick it out in situ. Strategically, we're fairly well defensible, being surrounded on back and sides with some verrrrry nasty briars and not the easiest terrain to negotiate. That was actually one of the deciders when it wuz git-or-git-off-the-pot decision time last year and we had to find somewhere to be. So here we is and hoping to not need to frequently be launching a lot of rocks.
