I just remembered something a guy in one of marine corp special forces told me, of ways they used to quickly toughen skin over a few days if needed, to drive hand or foot repeatedly into hot sand.
point of this and other post was that human foot's skin can adapt to become unbelievably tough, even to take walking on hot concrete road in the day in tropics
