another huge waste is the 70% of our municipal wastes that are wood and food/ag/other plant matter. We bury it to decompose into methane. A hundred years ago, processes were perfected that could yield 50 liters of ethanol per ton of that waste. So take our 5 - 600,000 tons per day of organic matter that the U.S. cities bury, we're throwing equivalent of 2% of our daily gasoline consumption down the crapper! stupid!
