I have two friends whose houses were broken into and ransacked, so I can say a couple of those things mentioned are good, but the rest are well known and not a good idea. The speed and thoroughness and destructiveness of a skilled punk or two is amazing. Thieves will throw all the books off the bookshelf looking for hollow books and things inside books, and flip the shelf over too. Beds wil be ripped apart. Plant pots will all be flipped/emptied or smashed. A thing weighing a few hundred pounds will NOT deter a young thug in his 20s from flipping it over or breaking it open, your upright piano included. Cans in cupboards, wrapped cash in freezer, forget about it, well known.
