In some areas you can air dry meat. In August near Ely NV elev 7000 or so I killed a rattler, gave the skin to a pal and threw the snake in a ditch. Two days later my snake was dry and light as a potato chip.
I think we could kill a cow at daylight, jerk it, hang it on the fence and two days later carry it away in a duffel bag.
