This is fairly interesting if you are into off the wall construction. This is an ancient city in Yemen, called Shibam listed in the world heritage sites, that has old wood and dirt/mud high rise buildings (5 to 16 stories high) that date back a long time, the city has to be rebuilt periodically because once in awhile it rains there. It's a desert, so this sort of construction can work for them there, albeit with that occasional repair. Building with mud has a long tradition, almost all cultures that have access to it have found out that once it dries, it works. Recently in Gaza, Israel blocked normal construction materials, so to rebuild after the latest war there, the residents are now using mud bricks. (latter link is a slideshow).
Just something to consider if things get wonky and you find yourself in the need for a new hovel someplace without a lot of resources or cash to spare....
