The queen in the UK now has a victory garden out back at her little digs at buckingham palace. This is the first time since WW2 that food was grown there, and is meant to encourage her...subjects...to grow a lot more of their own food. This goes along with Mrs. Big O having a veggie garden at the whitehouse (hers is organic, which really annoyed the big commercial ag industry quite a bit...).
But will she get her hands dirty?
Now what is *sad* is to realize that land ownership or access is so dismal there, just terrible, those folks are in a no win situation, they can't possibly even get semi independent unless they leave their own nation, go someplace else. Read down the article to see what a huge waiting list there is to get some "allotment" to grow a garden, then think of suburbia here with half acre lawns...at least we have the potential to grow a lot more, the poor folks there are stuck with giant estates for their fatcat class then little teeny strips they have to wait years to try and rent just to have a garden. Let alone trying to find a place to go fishing or hunting....that's probably mostly right out.
I read some heavy urbanites and european folks ragging on us for having SUVs and etc. I mean just nasty comments about how wasteful we are and so on..
Really, it's because we got SPACE, we got room to live and we need transpo to get around. I wouldn't trade our space for their cramped lifestyle for all de tea in china as the expression goes. They can have their subway tubes and waiting 15 years to maybe have a garden...I'll take the pickup and the garden NOW, thanks...
