Our little area got nailed this afternoon, really just a very small fast moving storm that passed over, really did a number on the front yard. We got nailed with a severe microbust downdraft event, wiped out (mostly, we'll have to finish taking it down now) our good mid afternoon and onwards shade tree, and old huge oak. Just missed creaming the house, I think because it was a straight down burst. I know this because it blew in rain like a torrent in every open window around the house, simultaneously, for about 90 seconds once it hit, I mean just drenched all those areas near the windows. You can also see it in some of the flower patches, smashed flat, not blown over in one direction. We had maybe 4 seconds tops notice, just a normal little light rain, a few boomers off in the distance, then the wind came up..and up and UP and whammo, knocked down several huge limbs, one of which partly hit the porch. At first I thought it was a tornado formed right over us or something. Luckily most are just laying on the ground now. Some really fat ones. One big one is hanging still, I'll have to drag it out of the tree with chains and the tractor.
I have lots of chainsawing to do tomorrow. Already fixed two of the tin roof panels, but I'll need to really replace them later.
I really regret losing that shade though, we don't have any AC.
