Still no power and I long for a REAL warm shower!
They are making progress, but it's a huge task. FEMA is not here, but IEMA is coordinating efforts. The governor will be here to survey the damage tomorrow and to give a press conference. My son just called and said he will be filming it for the tv station.
Lots of people from inside and outside the area helping with wood and brush removal, helping with meals for workers, etc. As far as I can see, the Red Cross has only a small part as far as aid goes.
They've been running curfews because of the unsafe conditions and to try to discourage those who might try to loot and steal, etc. So far they've only had to arrest 3 or 4 people. A couple of them were trying to steal generators. They put them in jail and levied a steep bail amount on them for their actions. People are watching out for each other here.
Found out the name of the only person killed during the storm is related to my granddaughter's mom.
I am amazed that there is virtually no national news coverage of this event, but then we live in a mostly forgotten area, no big cities or national significance, I guess. The vp of the utility company says it's the worst he's ever seen in all the years he's been in the business.
We are still running the genny and are able to watch tv and use the internet some, as well as keep our food cold. Got a camping stove and a covered BBQ grill out on the deck, plenty of food, and beautiful weather, so far.... I feel very lucky and grateful today....
