Does anyone here maintain two different ISPs? As in, two different ways to access the internet? I have come to the conclusion I need to do this now. I recently switched to a wireless ISP from my landline to try and keep costs down (I am now only spending half what I was before) but I am in such a fringe area and now that it is wet weather out and the trees are getting their full leaves that the connection is more down than up. Great when it works, I get barebones minimum broadband speeds, but it is really flaky. Now I can't afford nor want to go back to dialup, and if I could get xDSL I would do so, but too far away from the telco box apparently to do that. And any cable is out as well, same thing, too far away from where they offer service.
So I am left with either satellite-way expensive and from what I hear just as flaky as what I have now, or a cellphone data service. After a lot of research, I think that Boost Mobile has by far the cheapest rates. They have a 50 buck a month talk (unlimited)/text/data(somewhat limited but not much) plan or at 35 cents a day a data plan then talk is like a dime a minute. Basically ten a month for data with a five gig cap as a net access backup, plus cost of phone of course. That does not seem too bad, although it is slow dialup speeds, seems a good backup, because face it, in today's world you need net access to stay on top of things. Just that little data plan seems reasonable, albeit they don't have much in the way of phone selections yet. They have a full qwerty keyboard phone coming out in June from what I read yesterday.
So, anyone else here use their cellphone with data, do you have any comments on the service and so on, the phone you use, carrier, price, features, real world gotchas, any of that?
