Heh, finally back online. Friday we had some *exciting* times. A pretty bad storm. Got to hear the local tornado warning siren for the first time. Major damage locally was to the south and east of us, but we lost power for all afternoon to the next day. Just a few minutes ago got my isp connection back. We had ourselves and some gear stashed in our alleged safer closet. Eventually it blew over though but it was some strong winds and rain. Up the street from us a little it blew some guys barn apart, and in town some damage, trees through houses, signs and commercial big overhang awning things down, etc and my isp (recently got wireless back, dropped landline) lost some tower action, but they got it fixed now.
No internet SUCKS! You get used to having it and you *really* miss it when you don't. As does digital TV trying to get weather warnings, that SUCKS, too, the signal just goes all to heck, can't see the map, can't hear the words, or just no signal at all. The analog AM radio weather was sorta OK, almost couldn't hear it from the noise outside and the interference though, but no map and no way to check is not good.
I wish the government mandated and ran some weather analog TV signal (along with the same radio alert stuff, just put the dang maps with it, even slow scan updfated every few minutes or something, that would work through storms..
The only channel we maintained on digital TV (until the power went out) was some kids channel showing cartoons, clear as a bell, but that's it, need storm info, get cartoons. We get nine digital channels here, that cartoon channel just pushing some robot feed of cartoons was the only one to see. grumble...
OK, here ya go, nasty storm survival trick, motorcycle helmets, with face shields. Protect your head and eyes from flying stuff. Even if you don't ride, still a nifty thing to have for members of the household for situations like that.
