Welcome Lisa68, A lot of the older members have retired or gone out of business. The reason I keep the old post up is strictly for information purposes for new members. When I started 30 years ago plastercrafts were all the rage, but then it slowly started to disappear and the crap from China began to take over. It is sad to see a wondefull craft like plastcrafts disappear. So I pay for hosting and domains to keep these sites up and running. I have not even gotten a single "Thank You" in the ten years the plstercraft sites have been on line. So yes I am here! although maybe no one else is. Also, read the plaster-forum for more answers to your questions.
Pricing is usually thee times your cost to make a piece. But a lot depends on your market and how much you are willing to sell for, yet make a profit for yourself. Check out the competition, they are a great resource to evaluate your pricing.
Sealing whiteware for outdoors is not recommended. But I have had a pair of plaster angels on my garage for the past 12 years that I spray with gold spray paint from the hardware store every year. You could also seal them with water sealer used for sidewalks. I have tested all these in Chicago's weather. One of the things I do use is Hydrocal instead of plaster for outside pieces. But cement is the recommended medium for outdoor items.
Good Luck on your new venture.
