Transposing Patterns

Does anyone have the procedure for transposing the key on a pattern chain and then saving it.
I've tried a couple of times but everytime I transpose a base pattern (e.g. P06 - Copy to U01 - Transposed +02) to work on the transposition goes back to that of the original pattern. If I change it again it changes the whole machine.
