In a way, does that kind of take the pressure off? Just finish the story this first time?
It's strange, because I had been consulting guides, and I didn't suspect that one character disappears from a major island once you access the Earth Temple (definitely not the last event in the game). Remember how I was so impatient to enter another dungeon? Just prior to that, there seemed to be a new character right near the door of the main hub on Dragon Roost Island. He was kind of directing me toward Medli, who has the harp, and there was a harp icon carved into the stone that blocks your way into this temple.
To go off on a little tangent, I think I've taken about 48 unique pictures to this point. The game is kind of confusing, since some characters seem to be grouped together, and you don't need a photograph of the two people who are usually very close together, or a picture of all the varieties of wild pig for that matter. My plan was to be going in and out of the temple a few times to check on certain other things that were happening in the game.
Since the Wind Temple/dungeon was inaccessible to me the other day, would opening up the Earth Temple (but not defeating the final boss) at least give you a chance to find the character with a violin? Apparently, the answer is no! I returned to the waterfall and swung back inside. It's still just an empty room.
I wanted to see if this other Rito character would be at Dragon Roost if I entered the Earth Temple but didn't reach certain "checkpoints," such as the midway boss/item. That's kind of a complicated answer. I went to one of the outdoor areas, and a character out on a balcony definitely LOOKS like him. For the purposes of taking a picture, his back is to you, and I don't think there's a way to draw his attention. I went around the front, but you can't get far enough away from him to take an acceptable photo (with the carver's icon in the corner). If you DO attempt to talk to him, he mentions something about the island to the East and wanting to spectate at the contest they're hosting. Then he FLIES AWAY!
I tried playing the Song of Passing (which changes the time of the day), but that might have made him "invisible" for good. I could tell that events moved forward, because the prince had a flower for Medli. When I spoke to him at night, the flower had wilted. That was sad all by itself. It seems like those two might like each other, when, up to this point of the game, Medli was seeming like a good crush or "love interest" for Link/Will (who knows if the Rito species is even compatible with Link's species?). Now, this guy is after my "woman"?!!
So, what I haven't done yet is to check the quadrant with the mini-game that this Kogoli character mentioned. It's just weird how IGN would consider his photo opportunity lost if you don't know about capturing his image when you come to take Medli with you to the temple. Another Zelda wiki describes him as disappearing or invisible after that part of the game, without a follow-up about whether he might relocate anywhere else.
In the actual temple, I feel like it's been so SHORT! It's still clever, and I am having fun with most of the puzzles. There are weird things they experimented with in this dungeon, since you technically have two playable characters. There's some kind of fog that doesn't lower your health, but it stops you from using a weapon. I'm not sure what to make of that. One room is a weird design where you can go through a lot of trouble to get both yourself and Medli to some dangling platforms, and then to a dead end with skulls and other collectible "junk" or clutter. I'm thinking that's the pattern they keep using for the Tingle statues? I didn't want to collect those until I had pictures of the three varieties of Tingle, so they don't decide to DISAPPEAR!
There have been some newer enemy types in this dungeon. The "mini-boss" definitely would've killed me in hero mode, even though it's not that hard. You just have to keep your distance from its attack (basically Link's charged up sowrd spin with a spiked club). I think arrows go right through them, and I haven't tried bombs. The boomerang stuns them long enough for a close attack. You have to "kill" the head, or it just keeps regenerating.
After the temple/dungeon, I don't really see myself rushing to the Wind Temple. If there are 134 total figures, and I've only submitted 43 photos so far, it still doesn't even feel like I'm on the "downhill" slope of being at least halfway done. The 43 photos might account for at least 50 figures, since a few of them get bundled together. That would mean another 84 to go? Some are "legendary," and you have to buy them. I know I want the salesman Beedle to be #50. The Earth Temple boss should be #52. For 49, 51, and 53-59, I want to try and complete as much as possible of Dragon Roost (a place I might not visit anymore after this current temple). For 60-69, I can focus on dungeon enemies, since that room might be empty at the moment. Number 70 should be the Great Deku Tree, and then 71-79 for the Koroks, if there are nine of them. If I can get at least that far, I'm not sure what room of the gallery would still be lagging behind in figures. My home island of Outset needs three more to be complete, and I kind of "spoiled" those figures for myself. One is just a regular character who has been indoors lately. One is legendary and he disappeared after a cutscene. The last one is apparently just a common animal.
In between all of that, I think I'll be attempting my island by island goal of checking things off a list. That's going to be hard, because I still need the Wind Temple's item. I'm probably going to bid on the Swift Sail at the auction house soon, because just sailing around starts to take too much time. I think the game was actually set up to make you keep sailing across most of the world just to advance the story. I mean, the Earth Temple is in coordinate G3, going by memory. Where is the item that lets you lift the first barrier? It's up in C6 (four squares North, three squares East). You sail back down to watch a cutscene. Then you still need a character from B6 (even further North than the item location), who comes on your boat as you sail back to G3.
I'm not sure when all of the next developments will happen. I should be able to play again on Friday, and then next Sunday. On June 14, I think I was targeting "Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker" to give a little break from all the Zelda sidequests. A new game should at least mean a different thread, or maybe not updating after every play session.
