Since the time of beating "Tower of the Gods," I've been trying to catch up on other quests. I remember, in "Ocarina of Time," I usually skipped those, because they felt really optional or distracting. On my first playthrough, I didn't even have Epona!
In this game, I know that there are 49 total squares. It seems like you have to feed the fish up to 49 times to get all of the tips, even for islands that are already marked on your map (but only a few of those exist). I probably have almost half of the squares marked and the tips saved in case I need to read them again.
I've mostly been circling near the top 14 squares of the map. I think that's because of Windfall Island? You can get a bunch of treasure charts just from that location. In a few cases, you have to win an auction. That was an interesting process. If you DON'T win the auction item, the person who denies you of that chart just returns it to the auctioneer! You're supposed to focus on a strategy of "stunning" the other bidders for 10-20 seconds. When I finally did win a chart (third or fourth try), I only paid 177 rupees, and my bid locked in at the 0.53 second mark. The annoying thing is how you can't really see the clock. I wonder if it keeps running in real time, or if you could time it with a digital clock next to you. Somehow, if other people are talking, they block you from filling up your bid meter. The meter will sometimes finish filling itself as long as you already took it most of the way. I can't tell if it's a cool method to possibly get a discount on these items, or if it becomes frustrating to waste your time and possibly lose the auction.
I also needed to finish the "pictobox" tasks on Windfall Island. The reason for that seems to be how you're supposed to be taking pictures of everyone and everything during your whole quest. I know that "Metroid Prime" included a similar concept, and it was only slightly distracting. You could "scan" things with your visor, and the pattern only got inconvenient at the start of a boss fight. I did remember to photograph a Ganon enemy, but I also read that he might come back again. You can send those to Miiverse as well?
Right now, I think my camera is already full (up to 12 pictures can be saved), and I'm still in a dungeon. Does that mean leaving the dungeon, sailing back to the figure gallery, handing over those photos and clearing up some more memory? I can "picture" that taking many HOURS. I think part of the issue was waiting until this part of the game to have the color camera (black and white photos are no good), and then I didn't open the gallery until a few days ago. I haven't counted the total number of figures, but I could imagine filling up the camera memory nine or ten times.
Hunting for treasure isn't overly exciting, maybe because they kind of teach you how to do it with "light rings" that appear at night? Usually, those will be in a cluster of the same prize (multiple purple rupees). Somehow, the chests that are marked by charts will only appear if you have the chart. "Logically," shouldn't they be buried there the whole time? Then, it feels kind of rare that those chests lead to a piece of heart. I mostly remember silver rupees, which are similar to pulling up four purple rupees.
There are some islands where I wonder if I'm kind of done with visiting them now. I'd say the Northern Fairy Island for sure (opened, treasure chest marked off, fed the fish, ...). Then, a few of them are rock formations (no chance to explore/climb them), which only seem important at night if you want to find the Ghost Ship.
Storywise, I've read that there might not be too much left. Forsaken Fortress II should have some cool scenes. I got rewarded with a hammer, but I'm not sure what it does compared to how I've been blowing some things up with bombs. I've read about arrow upgrades and the hookshot (Sort of a "spoiler," but the arrows were definitely in "OoT," and the hookshot has probably been in every game I've played. It's either that, or there's a "clawshot" [longer chain, or it has a claw on the tip, rather than looking like a spear/arrowhead?]).
I'm not sure if that was all for now. My goal for Tuesday is probably going to be to get the figurines started and trying to complete the Fortress. Then, I couldn't really see myself trying to advance the main plot without mapping the middle section of the world. There's still the Ghost Ship, a windmill to fix, Big Octos (can't even make them appear), ...
