: "meh" on it. Then again, a lot of
: it has to do with the games and I really
: didn't see any I care for at the start.
: That can all change down the line and while
: many people are VERY excited for the new
: Legend of Zelda game, it's just not my genre
: of game nowadays.
I don't know if it's just Japanese culture, but when they actually put all these people on the stage, it felt like they were kind of subdued and just depending on jumping around (the "Grasshopper" guy) to get a crowd reaction? At one point (I think, actually, the grasshopper guy), the monotone translator dude seemed to not translate a bunch of things.
There was talking, talking, talking, but not really games. Or, it felt like, "Well, I have this idea for a game that's in development, but we haven't even named it yet." How is that news?
I felt like The Addams Family should've sued them or something? I get it. You switch over to this person by snapping your fingers. That got old REALLY fast.
I feel like the creator of Inspector Gadget should almost sue them for that ridiculous fighting game. What would be wrong with REGULAR boxing at close range? Well, it's kind of a boxing game, where the people wear boxing gloves, but they need to have robotic spring arms to punch the person because they refuse to get close enough to actually hit each other.
What in the world was "1-2 Switch"? You can play it without a screen. Then why not release it as a board game or something?!! You'd need to spend $300, plus the cost of this game to hand someone else a Joy-Con and see who has the faster reaction time? I thought for a minute, it would just be a game of rock, paper, scissors, where that camera thing detected your hand.
Mario just looks AWFUL when he's supposed to be in "the real world." Someone called it "Grand Theft Mario." Why do the NPC humans seem to ignore him, even if he walks right into them? Why would he destroy a taxi and then try to swing from a traffic light? Why did the NPCs only look as detailed as maybe GameCube-level graphics? Then it goes into all these other colorful places that still don't really scream, "This is a Mario game."
I felt like they missed a huge opportunity to release "SPLATWOON," instead of "Splatoon 2." Then I was thinking how there are lots of languages around the world, and why should they show a bias towards English, when the word "two" might not give the meaning of "2" in other countries?
What's with all of the Japanese RPGs? They sounded mostly like sequels to games that already released in the past two or three years at most. There was just a new "Fire Emblem" on 3DS, and the "Xenoblade" game feels like it only released in 2015 (not counting the Wii's "Xenoblade").
Yeah, they finally confirmed "Skyrim," but people have already bought it on PC, PlayStation 4, XBox One, ...
Then, the Scandinavian EA Sports guy had to be translated from English to Japanese, but it's cool how a Nintendo system might finally get a quality "FIFA" game (as the crazy FIFA people voted to expand the World Cup to something like 48 countries).
: As far as the two consoles, I actually
: really like the one that has the blue and
: red joycon. And you referenced the
: Wiimote/Nunchuk aspect which, yes, you can
: use them that way but there's also a
: handheld controller piece that the two
: joycons connect to so that you have a
: virtual "normal" controller. Of
: course when you use the portable screen they
: attach to the sides similar to using the Wii
: U Gamepad. So there are variations.
My thing with the red and the blue is how those are the only things that have any color. The rest would be the same gray and darker gray (to keep costs low?). Why two colors? To tell apart L and R once they're detached? Is it possible to slide them on to the wrong sides of the tablet?
The Pro controller finally looked "cool" to me with some of the circuit board graphics on the case, but when would you be looking at those?
: But overall, I might be the least excited
: over the Switch than any Nintendo console
: I've seen. I understand the people that see
: the "home & portable" aspect
: but I have virtually NO use for the portable
: side so I'd rather just focus on the home
: console aspect.
What I didn't really understand was how Reggie or anyone else could say, "This is so different from what we've ever done." Huh? I see it as even LESS functional than the Wii U, because you can't use a tablet when you play on the TV. If you could play "off TV" before now (depending on the game), that's not really "new" (it can go more than a few feet away from the TV, though). If you could always carry a 3DS out of the house, is that really "new"? If the Joy-Cons work similar to a Wii remote and Nunchuck (I thought people who skipped the Wii skipped it BECAUSE of quirky motion sensors), does that feel "new"? The main difference I see is how non-portable gamers don't get to choose between two systems anymore.
I guess you mentioned Zelda all the way at the top. Now, I did start to feel SOME emotion when they finally showed that trailer. Then, it was kind of ruined by how they have this Zelda character finally getting a voice, and she's using it to WHINE and act helpless! I really hope her voice isn't that horrible in the English version. Up until now, it's kind of been a "criticism" that Zelda games are missing the voices (Link still grunts), but if you're going to do them that badly, then maybe it's better to mute the game?
