Today might be an example. I knew I had to set an alarm, since I volunteered from 9 AM to noon. By the time I stopped hitting snooze, I wasn't going to be ready by 9 AM.
At church, we give away pumpkins in October. It's strange to hear some people's reaction. "How much do these cost?" Well, they're free. "But I mean, can I 'make a donation'?" If you did, then how would they be free? I didn't realize there's usually a quota of one per person. We supposedly had four times the typical number today, so if people were asking to haul 5 of them away, why would you discourage that?
In terms of multitasking, I know I need to get more stuff done today (mainly fantasy analysis, which isn't life or death). It's just so hard to come down from whatever chemicals flood your brain from being in a social situation. I'm not usually the life of the party, but they gave me a job today. Try to greet everyone, and hand out a leaflet saying here are the times when our church has services.
Even when it comes to everyday things, I try to pace myself. I might plan one or two activities per day. I know that laundry somehow consumes most of the day. We used to be able to do it at home. Our dryer has been broken for over a year, which means leaving the house for at least that part. It actually feels more efficient to do three overlapping loads at the laundromat, instead of wash, wash, wash, and then try to dry everything. If I pick one day to hunt for amiibo, I might get out of the house by 2 PM, and then be gone for a few hours, and then feel kind of worn out when I come back. Movies are sort of that way. I like to set aside a whole day, because the movie might be 2 hours. Plus, they keep adding commercials and previews whenever you see a movie (it feels like at least 4 of each, depending on the time of day). You'd also have to get ready before leaving the house, and the theaters that I like the best are at least a 30 minute drive (not to mention trying to be early and find a seat). After I see the movie, I'm thinking about all of those themes and images, so my brain stays running at high speed, instead of "shifting gears."
Basically, I'm not sure how other people are living life at a fast pace. I almost feel tired from listening to them say that for a child to be signed up for soccer is a six day commitment (5 practices and then a game on the weekend?). Going through a Christian school, I guess it's "only" five days per week, because they take a break on Wednesday (some churches have programs on Wednesday nights). That sounds insane to me, and what if the kids wanted to do more activities than one sports league?
I guess I'm definitely "underscheduled," but even then, I sometimes feel like there's a rush. This morning, I saw a car parked with the hood and the trunk both popped open. A woman was nearby, but looking confused. It crossed my mind to stop or turn around (the car was on the other side of traffic). I didn't, though.
Well, just a post to put some ideas out there. I'm not sure why people feel a need to "stay busy." What could I have learned or found out about that car situation? On the other extreme, sometimes I'm bored from having less things to do.
Better get back to fantasy stats and NFL picks.
