(Correct Picks)
Giants, Colts, Bengals, Patriots, Panthers, Texans, Steelers, Cardinals, Bills, Seahawks, Broncos, Packers
(Incorrect Picks)
Cowboys, Browns, Jets, Chargers
That's not too bad, right? Based on the leaderboard, and the way I'm dropping in the percentile, I think this was a good week for almost everyone. Despite how a 12-4 record is pretty good, you'd have to AVERAGE 13 wins per week to earn first place on the current leaderboard.
I've been noticing that, even with me seeming to put up big numbers of wins, I still slipped down the standings. Part of that could be due to other people who were 13-3, 14-2, or even 16-0 in week 3. I'm thinking the other part could be the tiebreaker of picking a Monday night score. I said Chiefs 20 Packers 31, which was the correct tens digit for both teams, but it was underestimating the total score by about a TD for both teams.
Out of those four losses, I was almost picking against MYSELF and some intuition in a few of them. When Dallas was ahead 28-14 AT HOME, I was figuring, OK, I took a good risk there. Who knew they weren't going to score again and Atlanta would come roaring back?
The Vikings did seem to use the strategy I was mentioning. You have Adrian Peterson. You're at home. The Chargers struggled to stop the Bengals from running in Cincinnati ... I must have something against the Vikings.
I do remember saying that the Jets don't seem like they're better than the Eagles, but that pick was mainly going by the statistics from the first few games of this year. The Jets were turnover machines against the Browns and the Colts. I'd have to check the box score, but I doubt they had more than one on Sunday.
You can't win every prediction, right? I sort of remember maybe one undefeated week in the distant past.
In the eliminator and Record Breaker, I got some mixed results. The Patriots were an obvious pick, and I think they had the biggest win margin of the whole week (34 points?).
In Record Breaker, you could see how it was coming down to a couple of guys for me: Jamaal Charles on long rest, BUT in a road game that the Chiefs were projected to lose, OR Adrian Peterson, probably on normal rest, in a HOME game that was definitely winnable (meaning the "game flow" may not have affected the number of rushing attempts). D'OH! I picked the wrong guy there. Jamaal Charles was awesome in fantasy last week, but only on the strength of three rushing touchdowns. My record has to do with rushing yards.
It's not even like I've picked a third string running back all three weeks this season. Jeremy Hill was a 1,000 yard guy just last year, but he did some of that while a teammate was injured. Alfred Morris is a consistent 1,000 yard back, and the Redskins did have a 100+ yard runner in that game. Jamaal Charles is more like a 1,200 yard back most seasons, not to mention his contributions to the passing game.
Pretty much, if the game was to intentionally pick a player to rush for under 70 yards per week, I'd be nailing it! Right now, I think I'm about 1,850 yards behind the record, with only 13 or 14 weeks to go, which raises the average I'd need in the coming weeks.
This week, if there's a 100 yard guy in a HOME game, against a bottom 10 rushing defense, I better learn from these mistakes and pick him.
I haven't gotten that far in my weekly picks, though.
I know nobody asks me to do this, but I'm not even sure how long I can sustain weekly posts. I definitely need to put more energy into a job search. It's bugging me how I could've owned a Wii U by now, and did they just discontinue the bundle with the physical games I've been wanting ("Nintendoland" and "Super Mario 3D World")? I know it's a digital era now, but I don't get how that's true gaming. They're even trying to create a market where you don't own any rights to a physical or downloaded copy of a game. It's just going to be a server that "streams" frames of video to your display device. In my mind, that's pretty lame, and the way packets travel across the Internet, it seems like you'll always have variable speeds (not the number of megabits, but the length of cable or how fast electrons can move from one place to another). Gaming is really sensitive to that sort of thing.
I'm not sure what that last paragraph has to do with the NFL, but it's even beyond spending money. I need to get out of debt more than I need to be challenging myself in NFL fantasy games.
